Armed conflict

“Conflict timber” is a term used to describe timber that is produced and sold to finance armed conflict.  Conflict timber is not necessarily illegal, though this is dependant on governmental sanctions in place at any given time.

You need to know if the timber you purchase could be classified as conflict and this should be accounted for within purchase policies.

The chain of custody is important here as conflict may be confined to a region within a country.
