National Living and Minimum Wage to rise in 2020 by more than 4 times the rate of inflation
The National Living Wage is to rise by 6.2% from April 2020 to £8.72 an hour (25 years of age and over) and the National Minimum Wage (those aged 21 to 24) by 6.5% to £8.20.
The rise is more than four times the rate of CPI inflation which stood at 1.5% in November and it will impact on differentials between skilled and unskilled workers. Apprentices too will receive an increase of 6.4% to take their hourly wage to £4.15, while those aged 18 to 20 will see an uplift of 4.9% to £6.45 and hour and those aged 16 to 17, an uplift of 4.6% per hour to £4.55.
